Welcome to the Smith Opera House technical services department.

We stand ready, willing and able to do whatever we can to help your event run as smoothly and professionally as possible. Some of the services we can provide include:

Lighting

Small to medium concerts, plays, dance shows and other events can be handled in-house. If additional equipment is required, we can outsource whatever is needed. Major concert events often call for an outside contractor. We can put the job out to bid, or use the contractor of your choice - Either way, we will work with them to assure that everything goes as planned.

Sound

We are equipped to provide mono or stereo sound support for public speakers, recorded sound tracks (Dance etc.) or vocal soloists. Medium and larger concerts generally require the services of an outside sound technician. We have several sound companies that we work with regularly, and can make the necessary arrangements - or we can work with your own sound people if you prefer.

Staging

We can arrange the stage in a number of configurations, depending on your needs. Whether you want the full depth of the stage for a large concert or a mid-stage black or gold drape - or hanging your own scenery - we can always adapt to your needs.

Loading crews / running crews!

Loading-in to our stage

A] Our Loading Dock is the preferred method. There is a driveway just past the Theatre entrance that leads to the loading dock.

Front of the Theatre at 82 Seneca Street

Maximum driveway clearance is (width) is 117" (9' 9")

B] Semis will not be able to maneuver to our loading dock. As an alternative, you may need to use our Back Stage load-in Door. This is a smaller door, but more accessible to larger trucks / trailers. As it requires the use of our neighbour Verizon's parking lot, please let me know in advance if you need to use this option, so that I can obtain their permission.

For directions to the Back Stage loading door, please read the following section.

Back Stage Load-in Door

Preferred loading is through our Loading Dock. However,if you have something larger than a 24' straight truck, You will not be able to maneuver to the loading dock. In this case you will need to load in through our backstage door which can be accessed through the Verizon parking lot.

To get to the backstage door, turn on Castle st. instead of Seneca St.

A block up you will get to a traffic light. Right after the light you will see the Verizon parking lot on your left. We are at the back of this parking lot.

If you need to use this back stage loading door, please let us know in advance, as we may need to obtain permission from Verizon to use their parking lot.

Need help unloading your trucks and setting up for the show?

Does your show call for stagehands, flymen, lighting, followspot or sound operators?

We will provide whatever you need. Have your own crew?

We can work with them - however certain hazardous tasks must be handled by our own staff.
