FILM: La Traviata - La Scala

La Traviata, literally "The Fallen Woman", is the story of an ill-starred romance between Violetta, a courtesan, and Alfredo, a young nobleman, set to the immortal music of Giuseppe Verdi. The film Pretty Woman was (very) loosely based on this opera -- and in fact you may remember that Richard Gere and Julia Roberts actually watch a performance during the movie. This one premiered at La Scala in 2007 and features brilliant performances by Angela Gheorgiu and Ramon Vargas.
